Pro-Xylane (INCI name: Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydropyrantriol, also known as C-Xyloside and marketed as Pro-Xylane) is a xylose derivative. Strictly speaking, Pro-Xylane is not extracted from the birch tree, but rather synthesized from xylose extracted from birch trees. Lancôme laboratory patented Pro-Xylane in September 2006 and first applied it to the development of anti-aging skincare products.

In 2019, after the expiration of the Pro-Xylane patent, the domestic market saw the emergence of various Pro-Xylane products with different names, commonly referred to as "XX-Yin." These products vary in Pro-Xylane content from 30% to over 90%, with colors ranging from colorless to orange-yellow. It has become difficult to distinguish the quality of these products, leading to the proliferation of counterfeit goods and causing safety concerns in the cosmetics industry. Currently, skincare products containing Pro-Xylane are very common, with claims of various concentrations. Many consumers are willing to pay for them. So, what makes Yaosynbio Pro-Xylane high-quality and outstanding in the market, and what is the magical power of Pro-Xylane that fascinates people? Is its efficacy really that good?

1. Promotes GAG Synthesis

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are long, linear, negatively charged polysaccharides composed of disaccharide units containing amino sugars. They are widely present in the cells, cell surfaces, and extracellular matrix (ECM) of the skin. The main types of GAGs include chondroitin sulfate (CS), dermatan sulfate (DS), keratan sulfate (KS), heparan sulfate (HS), heparin (HP), and hyaluronic acid (HA). GAGs have strong water-holding and viscosity properties, helping to maintain the spatial structure of the dermal extracellular matrix. GAGs-PGs complexes formed by the combination of GAGs and proteoglycans (PGs) play important roles in various biological activities, affecting cell migration, proliferation, differentiation, as well as the biological functions of various cytokines and proteins. Therefore, they are of great significance for skin repair and regeneration.

YaoSynbio Pro-Xylane, named as Syn-Xylane, composed of xylose and glycoside ligands, provides binding sites for soluble GAGs. It can initiate GAG synthesis and assembly without relying on endogenous core proteins (xylosides often carry 5-20 times more GAGs than endogenous core proteins), significantly increasing the level of free GAGs.

2. Promotes Collagen Regeneration

The junction between the epidermis and the dermis of the skin is called the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ). It is mainly composed of anchoring proteins and type IV collagen, which forms a dense plate. Type VII collagen crosslinks with the basal layer cells of the epidermis, and below that, it forms a network skeleton with type I and type III collagen in the dermis through type VII collagen. The main components include type IV collagen, type VII collagen, type XVII collagen, anchoring fibrils, nidogen/entactin, and perlecan, among others.

Pro-Xylane can act on the DEJ, inducing protein deposition in the basement membrane zone (BMZ) and the expression of structural proteins in the DEJ. It increases the expression of collagen IV and VII, allowing GAGs to fill the network of collagen IV, improving skin sagging caused by aging and reducing wrinkles.

3. Clinical Studies

In addition to natural skin aging, postmenopausal women experience a decrease in collagen synthesis, skin atrophy, decreased skin elasticity, and increased skin dryness due to estrogen deficiency. Bouloc et al. conducted a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, controlled study on 240 healthy postmenopausal women. The subjects in the Pro-Xylane group showed significant improvements in facial sagging, nasolabial folds, radiance, and skin color uniformity.

With Yaosynbio exclusive fermentation technology which no boron-containing catalyst is used, the reaction is mild and the conductivity is low, the purity of Syn-Xylane is 99%.

Syn-Xylane PRO is an upgraded version of Syn-Xylane, with the advantage that the diastereoisomer S:R ratio is 70:30 that is the highest in the industry, and the activity is stronger.

The Chinese red yeast used in the production of Syn-Xylane is a patented yeast modified by Yaosynbio own Synthetic biotechnology.  It occurs naturally in pine pulp, soil, seawater, acidic sewage, and plant leaves. As a typical oleogenic yeast, it can produce oil under the restriction of a variety of nutritional elements, in addition to the synthesis of carotenoids, fermentation product ergot thionein, oils, carotenoids, unsaturated fatty acids (such as oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and stearic acid), amino acids, etc. It can be co-fermented with bifidobacterium, cultured separately, inoculated proportionally, and the strain ratio is stable.

The U.S. Culture Preservation Center (ATCC) defines the BSL biosafety level of it as level 1.

In summary, Syn-Xylane has moisturizing, enhanced skin elasticity, and improved skin texture effects. It promotes the regeneration of aging tissues, allowing the skin to regain its youthful feeling.

Moreover, for many ladies who are intolerant to retinol (vitamin A) and have sensitive and fragile skin, Syn-Xylane, as a substance that mimics the xylan in the skin, may be a better choice. It is much more easily accepted by the skin compared to retinol.
