Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a macromolecular mucopolysaccharide formed by the repeated linkage of -acetylglucosamine and D-glucuronide disaccharide units. It is also a naturally occurring macromolecule widely found in skin and other tissues. It has good moisturizing effect. 1 gram of HA can lock up 1000 times its weight of water and is known as the ideal "natural moisturizing factor". Commercially available hyaluronic acid is usually in the form of its sodium salt, known as sodium hyaluronate.
